I never had the chance to take photos of my Christmas/birthday present from Shawn's mom and his sister, Kristin. She's my very favorite (and very expensive) Pinky Street figure, Gunslinger Girl, Henrietta. The emotions that cross her adorable face are more than I can take sometimes, just because there are so many. I love her. I was going to name her Susie Sushi, but because I plan on watching the Gunslinger Girl anime series, I'm keeping it Henrietta. I think I'll fall in love with her character and regret renaming my figure.
Henrietta's gun and violin case are completely sexy. I can't get enough her, tee hee. I can't wait to get more Pinky Street figures so I can line them all up and mix and match their bodies, outfits and accessories. (Henrietta will most likely keep herself together since she's rather pricey.)
Anyway, my first official day back to classes was today, and I think it went really well. I felt so relaxed. ^_^ As time goes on in college, classes, although more challenging, are seemingly... easier. Now that I'm in full control of what English classes I take, I don't have pressure pounding down on me every day.
I only have to go to class four days a week, and even on those four days, I get to wake up at 9:45 every morning. My first class, English: Introduction to Linguistics, is pretty interesting. I took an International English class last year, which covered similar material, and I figure that its more technical side, compared to other English courses, will make me even more well-rounded as an English major, and writer in general. I view my professor like a really good mom. She's happy, proud of her work with linguistics, and is wonderfully enthusiastic about what she's teaching to her students. The material would probably seem boring if she weren't so sweet. My second class is the complete opposite. I love lecture classes because they allow students to feel independent and in control of how well they want to do, but they can still drone on like this one tended to do. I've liked most of the ones I've had in the past, and this one should be no different. The lecturer, a little on the boring side, seemed aggravated today. When I found out she has almost 700 students to teach this semester, I understood why. I'm hoping that she'll warm up to my class of 400. o_O
Beth decided to come to my class with me because she's thinking about dropping her science class so she can take Oceanography with me instead. I missed having a class with her last semester, so I was excited to have her with me again. (We usually try to schedule at least one per semester together.) The auditorium was so full that students were sitting on the floors. Beth and I are guessing that she won't be able to get in, even if a few people decide to drop the class. I'm disappointed, but at least the class Beth is registered for has a more spunky professor.
As some of you know, I made the Vox Banners group. Well, I'm also running two other groups here at Vox. Before the groups started up, Mena (a Vox team member) contacted me and asked if I would help inform people about the Blythe group she was creating. She then, to my surprise, gave me the position as a moderator for the Blythe group. I'm so happy to be in charge of something that's Blythe-related. For any Blythe lover that reads this, make sure to stop by and join the group. ^_^ And finally, I also started up another group, one that is kind of affiliated with my regular Vox account, the Kawaii group! That one only has three members so far, so I thought I'd advertise my little group here so it has more growing room. Anyone who loves cuteness, sweetness, and basically anything adorable, please join.
I started classes today as well. I always like the start to a new semester, because I'm so full of motivation. Give me a week and my energy levels go way way below zero though lol.
You seem to have a passion for writing, and it's nice to know that you're majoring in something you are really enjoying. I wish I could say the same for myself.
Congratulations on getting your new camera. Getting new gadgets and electronics always makes me happy.
Good luck with your classes this semester. =)

I think that's what I liked best about getting closer to completing my Undergrad. The fact that I had so much control over the courses I would take. Now, in my first year in Grad school, I'm taking intro and requisite classes again and I just feel the pains of the pressure.
I took a Forensic Linguistics course in my final semester of Undergrad. It was really interesting and I got a lot out of it. Mine was more of an analytical look at linguistics in the matter of how it integrates with the language of law (more in my field of study). It was really interesting and wished I didn't graduate so that I could take the follow up course to it.
Good luck with this semester, Lauren. You'll do great!

I love your new vinyl figure (it is vinyl, right?)! It's adorable. ^^ Is it from some sort of comic/manga or anime? I'm so clueless when it comes to these things.
Congrats on your first day of classes! I'm glad to hear that everything went well for you, and that you like all of your professors so far. Classes are always so much better when the professors are passionate about what they're teaching... it makes you want to be just as passionate. The material becomes so much more interesting too, and you see it in a light that you may not ever have saw it otherwise. I <3 great professors! I can't believe you have 400+ people in one of your classes! O.o Wowie, I can see why she would be stressed. The most I ever have in any of my lectures is about 200, and the professors usually make the TA's do all the work, heh.
I'll be joining your kawaii group... I may not show it as much as you do, but I do indeed love all things kawaii. ^_^

Thankies, sweets. ^^; I call her a vinyl figure, just because I find it fitting. There aren't any rules so you don't have to worry-- that works! Pinky Streets, according to Wikipedia, are made out of plastic, but when I handle them, they feel more like a vinyl or rubber type of material. Pinky Streets are like Blythes; they are designed by one company, but every so often, ones are released that are collaborated with Japanese artists. Henrietta is a collaboration piece. Gunslinger Girl is an anime series. I hope to be getting it soon. ^___^
I agree. I often talk with other students about how good professors affect academic performance. I'm often amazed at the amount of intelligence a professor expresses, yet he/she still remains unaware of the students around him/her. If only all professors would learn that how they teach and how they express their enthusiasm for the subject they teach affects how students absorb information. To me it's a "no duh." Tee hee.
I'm glad you joined my group. <3

Like Blythes and Pullips, Pinky Street as a wonderful cult following. They're a lot easier to get ahold of (because of their cheaper prices), so it's nice finally having a hobby that doesn't cost me hundreds of dollars at a time. =D
Thankies for joining my Kawaii group. It's fun already. Squee!

I heard that the series was short. You're right-- that's sad. A lot of the anime series that I love are really short. I still enjoy them though. ^^ Many animes, including Gunslinger Girl, are so aesthetically pleasing, just like you said. I'm looking forward to a new obsession.

I think my Linguistics class will also be a little more technical than some of the other English classes out there. Today, my professor explained that linguistics is actually considered "a science of English." I thought that was well put. Thanks for the encouragement, sweets. I really appreciate it. ^__________^
Posted by: Lauren | January 22, 2007 at 09:45 PM
Thank you so much. <3 Good luck with this semester. I think I'll probably end up like you explained: all my energy and enthusiasm will slowly dissipate as time goes on. I don't mind. That's what school is about. Haha. ^_~

[this is good] Good luck with the English classes, I'm sure you will do well.
I love your little Henrietta, so kawaii, I would love to get the Askuka Langley and Rei Ayanami Pinky st. neko-shoujo figures double Eva kawaiiness

[this is good] I love Gunslinger Girl, it's one of my guilty pleasure animes.
I've been trying to get my hands on the violin player Pinky: St figure, but it appears to no longer be in print. Should I try eBay? Granted, eBay scares me quite a bit. I need statues for my desk though. Working at WonderCon this year, I'll definately keep an eye out.

Cute Pinky street girl!

I'm still learning about Pinky Street, but if I were you, I'd try Ebay for the figure you're looking for. I bought both of mine on there. The only problem you may have to worry about are bootlegs. Those are the imitation PS figures that sellers try to trick people into buying. I'd do some Pinky research here:

The Pinky Uni has a lot of information to offer, not to mention the site's useful forum. ^_~

They really are all amazingly cute. I have a feeling their cuteness is going to be the end of me, and the beginning of another addiction.

Wow! Cool doll, I love it! Right, dumb question here... what's this Pinkystreet thing? I ask because my nickname is Pinky, so I just though it was funny there was some cartoon thing named Pinky street! hehe
Happy new start of classes! (PS: Hurrah for linguistics!!! hihi) : )

I'm glad you like Henrietta. Well, Pinky Street is the type of doll Henrietta is. There are many different types of Pinky Street figures. Each girl (and on rare occasion, boy) consists of interchangeable parts.
The anime that this particular doll was named after is Gunslinger Girl. ^___^ I guess you could consider that a type of "cartoon," tee hee.
Oh, yeah! Haha, I didn't even catch that-- The Crafty Linguist and my Linguistics class... I'll keep you posted on how it goes. ^_~

Henrietta is adorable! I'm glad I didn't read your blog before having Nate or I'd be broke!

no way, mena asked you to be a moderator on the blythe group? that's awesome. you're quite the popular gal over at team vox i guess! :)
ps - you have HOW many people in your classes???
Posted by: erin*carly | January 23, 2007 at 10:25 PM
Lauren, you know alot about dolls, and I have learned so much from you, thanks for introducing them. ;)

It's crazy, I know. My lecture class has 300-400 students in it. That's the biggest lecture I've ever had. I know that other universities (mine is big, but not as large as others) have even larger lecture halls. I'd love to see one of those someday. There's a lot less pressure riding on each student because no one really has to put forth an effort. That's why it's so great though-- I love being independent. =D
I felt so special that Mena asked me to do that. I've "met" some really great people that work for Six Apart through Vox. It's awesome!

Gunslinger Girl is an extremely emotional anime, that rewards those who can watch it with beatific animation.

Eeeee! I need to own one of these dolls! Especially the Blythe - how does one go about buying her?
Posted by: Shauna | January 24, 2007 at 04:09 AM
Hey, I'm going to message you with some info about Blythes. Choosing which girl to get can be a little more complicated sometimes, mostly because there are so many girls to choose from, and because you'll have to figure out the amount of money you want to put towards one (or a million ^_~). I'll message you in a few minutes.
