I finally got the pictures of my whole Tokidoki bag uploaded. I know I've been obsessing over it for a few days now, but getting something this special and having such an experience in the process almost never happens... so I really take advantage of when it does happen. I feel really lucky to have gotten a bag with the whole scene print instead of the scene being chopped up. A lot of the bags there were like that. The postcard I'm holding in the other pictures is one of the free gifts I received. I forgot to take a photo of the fan too, but oh well. I don't wanna Tokidoki myself out. I'm sure I already have with anyone that's read my posts here.
Question: Is anyone familiar with fabric? Simone also signed the strap on my bag (white ink on a sporty black material) and I'm afraid that it's going to wash away if I use my bag, even if I'm really careful with it. I went to Jo-Ann's the other day and the employees there weren't much help. One of them suggested Scotch Guard so I bought that, but I have a feeling that the spray will only protect the fabric, not the ink. I haven't used it yet in fear of ruining the ink. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm down at the apartment today. Beth and I had to go to the Union to get our books. Of course, only TWO of the six books I need for one of my English classes was there. I hate waiting for books to be restocked, especially since my first book needs to be finished by September 11th. I really wanted to get a head start on it. Beth's going to take Josh to a hair appointment so I get the place to myself. It's not too hot here so it's the perfect day.
On a side note: I love the looks Beth and I get when we walk side-by-side. It's the "hmm, I wonder if they're twins" look. Some people actually start to ask us if we're waiting for change at a register or at a streetlight, but then they decide against it and shut their mouths. I think it's funny and I'm never annoyed by it unless people blatantly stare. Then that just weirds me out.
I feel like an idiot because you've mentioned it several times, but what is Tokidoki exactly?

Oh, don't feel like an idiot! It's not a mainstream type of thing so most people have no idea what my infatuation is. ^_^ Tokidoki is a line put out by the artist Simone Legno, an Italian artist. He's greatly influenced by the Japanese culture and art, as you can probably see from his work. At first, he made separate pieces of artwork, but some designers approached him about starting his own line, and he now calls it Tokidoki (which means "sometimes" in Japanese). So anything you see with his art is basically something related to Tokidoki. That's the best I can come up with right now, haha.

Hey, Lauren, you just commented on a pic of me on my blog, so I thought I'd take a look at your blog (god, I love Vox-hopping), and I'm glad I did - you're like a US version of me! I also collect urban designer toys (mostly qees although I will happily splurge on anything plastic and colourful) and love Japanese culture too. Just added you to my neighbourhood - hope you don't mind.
Kat :)
Ps. - haha thanks for saying I look cute in the pic, I was having a momentarily brief MySpace/camwhore moment the other day! You're really cute too!

Hey Lauren, I just thought I'd stop by and say hi! I found your blog through Daynah's vox account and loved looking through all your pictures (you're very pretty and I love you Blythe dolls!) and reading your entries, they're so much more interesting than mine, haha. Good luck with school this year!!! :D

man, i really wish we could comment on comments and get notified on them to keep content with the original posts.
1: so funny about the sci-fi stuff. our parents probably had no idea what they were ingraining into us. :) but are you current with SG-1? did you see the 200th episode the other week? i'm always a week or two behind with my DVR, but oh-my-goodness-it-was-fantastic.
2: good move from journalism if you're more interested in the creative side of writing. depending on what you're covering, it can get intense. any idea what you want to do after graduation? i changed my major quite a few times . . . from biology to english/writing to graphic design, and then added photography on top of that with a minor in art history. but what i really want to do is be a photojournalist for a newspaper or the AP. i spent a year and a half working for a local newspaper in New Jersey before i moved here to DC, and boy do i miss it.
3: while at the beach with the girls this weekend, we actually had a discussion about how we take living near the water for granted, and i thought of you and how your trip to CA was only the second time you've seen the beach. now, i've never seen cali, but except for college, i've never lived more than 3 hours from the shore, or 20 minutes from the edge of the land. (there's cliffs - the palisades - down to the river near where i used to live.) i can't imagine being land-locked.

Oooo TokiDokis, I *love* them!! Congrats, the bag (and the little figures) are lovely... I would get some if I wasn't so broke after filling my house with dolls. XD Thanks for adding me. :)

I CAN'T believe I missed out on the premiere summer collection. The fall design looks better, though. =) I want to get the Stellina and the Portatelefono. I'm so excited! I hope to get them tomorrow. I'm so jealous that you have yours. Tokidoki is the only reason I'm shelling out this money. I'm generally not a buyer of purses or bags over the $20 range. *drool*

tokidoki's are so cool~ I went to the NY signing for the 2nd edition and he autographed my bastardino figure and a post card. hehe.. i took a small video clip of him autographing a girl's bag. i think i stuck it on youtube :)

speaking of tokidoki . . . did you see *these* on urban outfitters?
Posted by: erin*carly | August 31, 2006 at 08:49 AM
CherrySoda- No prob! I saw your journal and new it was a must. ^_~
Japayuki- I know what you mean. I don't think I've ever spent more than $30 on a purse so this was a jump for me. When I saw all the purses and bags in person though, it was impossible to resist. It was either get one THEN and have it signed by Simone or get one at Christmas with NO signature. Haha, it was an easy choice. ^^;
Xoisuzu- Oh, you're so lucky to have a vinyl signed by him...
Erin- Ugh, no I hadn't seen those. *drool* They are now on my Christmas list. =D Thank you so much!

Oh dear. I planned on going to Macy's today to get it, but I fear the wrath of temptation. Hopefully I'll come back with One tote bag and the Portatelefono. I actually like 2 of the bags so I hope I don't walk out with both of them. I wish I could get mine signed! Technically, I should be able to help you out with your fabric question since I'm a fashion major, but my textiles teacher sucked and somehow, they still let our class graduate. All I can offer is that I'm skeptical about the scotchguard as well. How about something from an art store? Those spray things they use for canvas paintings? (Ok, i possibly may retract that as I do NOT want to ruin that precious bag.)
Posted by: Serial Girlfriend | August 31, 2006 at 02:46 PM
Hahaha, thanks for the suggestion! Yeah, I thought about trying Michaels, an arts and crafts store. I'll try that and then if that doesn't work, maybe I'll check at Utrecht, a paint/art supplies store. Someone has to know something about this kind of thing. Thanks for the suggestion!
I'm hoping you come back with TWO of the bags you want. ^_~ I wanna see some pictures of your beautiful bag(s). I'm sure you'll get the chance to meet Simone some day and have something signed. I'm a psychic and I can see that happening in your future, tee hee. *winky*
